Cost of Education
Yesterday many students in California and across the nation protested the rise in fees for public colleges. At the university where I work, they effectively closed down the campus for the day. They did let my health center staff pass (we made an agreement with them to help any and all injured students -- a few were hit by cars trying to pass), but we were the only staff or faculty allowed to pass.
In California the fees for the Cal State and UC system have increased more than 40% in the past two years. For graduate school and health professionals students, the fees are even higher.
Just the tuition and fees alone at a public university here are now over $14,000 a year. To get a masters degree to become a nurse practitioner in a public university will be close to $30,000 just in tuition and fees.
I wonder how long it will be before we start seeing a drop in the number of new grads from NP and PA programs. Many students will have difficulty financing their education.
